Q: What is Broadband internet?
A: Broadband internet is the same World Wide Web that everyone shares and connects to via their computer or other Internet communication device. The difference between Broadband and other services such as dial up or satellite is the speed. Broadband is the classification for very fast download and upload speeds. In other words very fast internet.
 
Q: What is MBPS (Megabytes per second)?
A: MBPS is the rate of speed in which you receive data.
 
Q: What is MB (Megabit)?
A: MB is a unit of measurement that defines a capacity or space.
 
Q: What are the trainings in the broadband campaign?
A: Below is a list of the current trainings / workshops offered

  • Basic Broadband training - Set for beginners . This course covers the absolute beginnings of internet communications. Attendees will learn about Bytes versus Bits and their relation to their own purchases and contracts. Discussions will include common home network setups with examples; basic internet browsing and searching; using email, and all it has to offer; viral safety and other risks.
     
  • Intermediate Broadband training - Set for Intermediate users and those who want to start taking advantage of what the internet has to offer. This course will begin with more advanced browsing by covering the use and the risks of sites like youtube, Napster and other internet radio, and other streaming site such as Netflix and all their legalities. DIscussions will be lead on the convenience and risks of online shopping, bill pay and other forms online banking.
     
  • Advanced Broadband training - Set for advanced users and those who want to take advantage of everything the internet has to offer.topics to be discussed will include downloading and all its aspects including file to file transfer; the use of online application stores and future of software purchases. Users will look at the use of social networks and their risks.
     
  • Mobile Integration training- Set for those who want to be mobile with their computing needs. This class will focus on the use of mobile technology with broadband. Discussions will be held on data plans and their overall costs to end users. All other topics previously discussed will be incorporated into this class and used on a mobile platform. The use of video communication will also be covered and exercised on the mobile medium. 

 
Q: Where are these trainings located?
A: TDV has been woking with the local tribes and are conducting all the trainings / workshops on all the reservations. Classes are scheduled every week or so at different community centers on the local reservations. For more information please call 760-742-0582 x 117 or email broadband@sctdv.net
 
Q: How much does it cost to take these trainings?
A: There is no cost to attend these trainings.
 
Q: Are these trainings/ workshops for Natives only?
A: TDV offers these classes to the public meaning everyone. TDV is a tribally owned company but recognizes the digital divide between the rural areas in San Diego county and the urban areas.
 
Q: Can I subscribe to TDVNet?
A: Tribal Digital Village currently relies on technology that requires a line of sight from your house to one of our towers that deploys internet to our subscribers. Tribal Digital Village is always at the forefront of testing and acquiring new technology to better serve our subscribers and future cliental. Our goal is to give access to ALL those residents in the reservations and rural areas of San Diego otherwise unserved by bigger companies.
